What is the difference between plywood and laminated veneer lumber?

Plywood is made from thin layers of wood veneer glued together with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another. Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is made from thin veneers of wood glued together under heat and pressure, creating a stronger, stiffer product. LVL is often used for structural applications.
